The purpose of Stock Photographer Blog is to consolidate in one place all of the information you need to start selling your photos to micro-stock agencies.
I am an amateur photographer, probably much like you. I’ve been taking photos since I was a kid, I took photography courses in college, and whatever job I’ve held over the years, I’ve kept taking photos. I’ve worked ina photo lab where I saw thousands of photos a day from semi-professional to vacation snap shots. I’ve also worked in marketing where I purchased stock photography for ad layouts. Perhaps this last is what made me interested in taking advantage of the new age of stock photography to sell my photos to micro-stock agencies.
And in this blog, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
I will post the results of my research into stock photography and the various agencies, but more than that, I’m going to take you step-by-step through my process of submitting to these agencies. I’ll explain the different processes and metrics that each one uses. And I will post the financial results of my photo sales with each agency.
Together we’ll learn which agencies get the most sales, and which pay the best. We’ll find out what kinds of photos are most popular and, equally importantly, which are not popular. And we’ll find out just what kind of opportunities exist for the amateur stock photographer in today’s digital age.
